This month, Mr Hussein was observed to be allowing unauthorised people to inspect cars which were then given a Warrant of Fitness (WoF) by Mr Hussein. Mr Hussein has also failed to correctly inspect some vehicle lighting, braking and exhaust systems.

The balustrade that has been selected comprises a mix of metal and wood, with thin metal slats to provide the best visibility of the surrounding area. It was the preferred option in a second round of consultation about a replacement balustrade for this section of the path. This option received 67% of votes (156 votes) from the 233 people overall who took part in the survey.

In November this year, Mr Upson was found to have allowed two unauthorised people to carry out Warrant of Fitness inspections on his behalf. He also failed to correctly identify issues with a vehicle’s brakes, exhaust and steering. In addition, Sunnybrae had some vehicle testing equipment which was either overdue for maintenance or broken.

“Over the three years from 2015 to 2017, there were 12 crashes where eight people died and 12 people were seriously injured on these roads. WoF alert – Beemac Motors Tokora and vehicle inspector Brian McEvoy immediately suspended

Mr McEvoy is the sole vehicle inspector at Beemac Motors and has a long history of non-compliance. Recent reviews of his work identified further non-compliance such as failure to identify corrosion and not properly inspecting steering, driving pedals, the engine and brakes.

The Transport Agency’s Senior Manager Project Delivery, Chris Hunt says the incident happened mid- morning and early indications are that it could take four to six hours to repair the cable. The outage is affecting residential and business customers.

The Commissioner’s decision and recommendation are subject to conditions on both the resource consents and the designation.  Conditions were proposed by the Transport Agency,  and discussed with other parties during the hearing.  The Transport Agency is considering the Commissioner’s decision and recommendation, including whether to accept the recommendation in relation to the NOR, and no further comment on the decision will be provided at this stage.

Transport Agency Senior Manager Project Delivery, Chris Hunt says the lane changes will start on Monday, 10 December and be rolled out in stages over three nights. All four lanes will be moved to the western side of the motorway, with the two northbound lanes moved first. The southbound lanes will be moved on Wednesday night.

The Transport Agency and the Kāpiti Coast District Council are collaborating with NZ Police and Porirua City Council on temporarily closing Paekākāriki Hill Road between the State Highway 1 intersection and Grays Road at Pauatahanui, to trial its effectiveness in improving safety and journey times.
