Appeal for sightings of missing Ōtorohanga man

Waikato Police are appealing for sightings of Steven Rolls, who has been reported missing by his family.

Steven left his Ōtorohanga home at around midday yesterday (Christmas Day) to drive to Huntly, however did not arrive in Huntly as expected.

Police and Steven’s family have serious concerns for his welfare.

If you have seen Steven or his car (a gray Kia Rio, registration FRG486) since 12pm yesterday, please contact Police and quote file number 241225/1782.

Child fatally struck on driveway, Masterton

A child has died after being struck by a vehicle on a driveway in Masterton this afternoon.

The crash occurred on Atkinson Street and was reported just after 3:10pm.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances of how this incident occurred.

Motorcycle crash blocks SH 2, Wellington

Emergency services are currently responding to a crash on State Highway 2, between Hebden Crescent and the Haywards Hill Road off-ramp.

A motorcycle crashed at around 9.15am and both sides of the road are currently blocked.

The motorcyclist is not believed to have serious injuries.

Fatal crash, Pah Hill Road, Wharehine

One person has died following a serious crash in Wharehine last night.

Emergency services were called to the single vehicle crash on Pah Hill Road at around 10.15pm.

Sadly, the sole occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit attended and conducted a scene examination.

Enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Fatal crash, Parkvale, Tauranga

Police can confirm one person has died following a crash in Parkvale, Tauranga last night.

Emergency services were called to the two-vehicle crash, involving a car and a motorbike on Lloyd Street at about 8:20pm.

The motorbike rider sadly died at the scene.

The Serious Crash Unit attended and enquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

Police conduct further search for missing climbers on Aoraki Mount Cook

Police have today conducted another search on Aoraki Mount Cook for the three climbers missing since 2 December.

Due to a change in climatic condition, Police, alongside Search and Rescue staff and Department of Conservation, conducted a further search at a location of interest on the mountain.

Staff travelled up the mountain via helicopter, and while the search for the men was unsuccessful, a ski pole was located.

Police have been in contact with the families of the three men, to update them on today’s search efforts.

We are continuing to follow the process to formally suspend our search, however we remain poised to reactivate the search if fresh information or credible sightings are reported, especially from the climbing community.

Drowning – Waimamaku Beach, Far North

A woman has drowned after getting into trouble in the water at Waimamaku Beach in Northland this afternoon.

Police were called to the beach at around 1.20pm.

The woman was recovered from the water and brought to shore where CPR was performed. Sadly, she was unable to be revived.

The woman’s death will be referred to the Coroner.

Arrest made in Naenae homicide investigation

A man has been arrested and charged with murder in relation to the death of Albert Enoka in Naenae on Tuesday 10 December.

Mr Enoka was found critically injured on Seddon Street at around 3.15pm.

Despite the efforts of emergency personnel, he died at the scene and a homicide investigation was launched.

This morning, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa Police executed a number of search warrants in the Wairarapa area, and the 28-year-old man was arrested without incident.

He is due to appear in Court at a later date.

Police are pleased to have made an arrest in this case and hope it brings some sense of reassurance to Mr Enoka’s family and the wider community.

Police would like to thank the Hutt Vally community who have played a very important role in assisting our investigation thus far.

Police are still seeking CCTV footage in relation to events that occurred moments prior, during and after this incident and ask anyone with any information to make contact with us. Police have created an online portal with a link attached that allows members of our community to upload private CCTV and video footage.

Napier homicide investigation: Charges upgraded to murder

Police have upgraded the charges of four people arrested in relation to the death of Napier man Boy Taylor to murder.

Two males were arrested and charged overnight.  A 19-year-old Napier man will be appearing Hastings District Court today charged with Murder.  He is also facing a charge of Wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm in relation to a second victim that has been identified.

An 18-year-old Wellington man is appearing in the Wellington District Court today charged with Murder and one charge of Wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

The two Napier males who appeared earlier in the week, aged 21 and 33, have been remanded in custody.  They are set to reappear on January 22 and the charge will be upgraded to Murder.  They will also be charged with Wounding with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

Fatal Crash, Riversdale Drive, New Plymouth

One person has died following a serious crash in Merrilands this morning.

Police were called to Riversdale Drive at around 9.15am.

Sadly, the single occupant of the vehicle died at the scene.

One occupant of the address was transported to hospital with moderate injuries.

The road is closed while the Serious Crash Unit examines the scene.

Motorists are advised to take an alternate route and expect delays.
