Two people have died and another person is seriously injured following a two car crash just north of Kaeo on State Highway 10 around 2:20pm.

The injured person is being airlifted to Auckland Hospital.

The road remains blocked in both directions and diversions are in place at SH10 and Matauri Bay Road and at SH10 and Whangaroa Road.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating.

Four people are trapped; three in one vehicle and one in the other.

Four men aged 15, 17, 18 and 20-years-old, have been arrested following a car-jacking in central New Plymouth last night.

Police were called around 8:00pm to the intersection of Rainsford and St Aubyn Streets, after it was reported that the men had pulled a 72-year-old woman and her 48-year-old daughter from the vehicle and stolen it.

A pursuit was initiated after the vehicle was located and failed to stop near Oakura.

The vehicle was pursued along Surf Highway 45 and the vehicle was slowed by road spikes about 40km away near Pungarehu.

Headline: Homicide inquiry launched into Wainuiomata death

Hutt Valley Police have launched a homicide investigation following the discovery of a man’s body at an address in Wainuiomata late on Wednesday night. 

The man has been identified as 40-year-old, Paul Te Hiko, from Wainuiomata.

Emergency services were called to the Jack Vaughan Grove address around 11pm on 7 March 2018.

Results from the post mortem indicate that he died from a gunshot wound.

“A team of detectives and experts are investigating the matter,” says Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Sears.

A 37-year-old man will appear in Manukau District Court this morning.

Police enquiries are continuing however no one else is being sought in relation to the incident.

Two men are safe after their small aluminium boat overturned in Mellons Bay, near Howick.

A member of the public notified Police at 6.49pm when he spotted the pair in trouble, who were in the water for 15 minutes.

The Police Eagle helicopter crew soon located the men while a Auckland Police Maritime Unit rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) made its way to the Bay.

A local ferry dropped two lifejackets to the men and stayed with them.

Headline: Rainbow Pride car to feature in Wellington’s Pride Parade

The New Zealand Police Rainbow Pride car will be featuring in Wellington Pride Festival’s Pride Parade tomorrow night.

The car has been created to acknowledge the important relationship between Police and New Zealand’s Rainbow community and to celebrate diversity.

The car made its first public appearance in the Capital at “Out in the Park” at Waitangi Park last month and featured in the Pride Parade in Ponsonby on the 17th of February.
