Today New Zealand Police is recognising International Women’s Day by preparing for the arrival of forty-two female recruits – the largest number of female recruits ever in a single Wing.

Wing 315, which has a total of 80 new recruits, begin at the Royal New Zealand Police College on Monday.

Fittingly, Dame Jenny Shipley is the Wing Patron and she will be supporting these recruits through their training. Dame Jenny was the first female Prime Minister of New Zealand.

Wing 315 recruit Kiahli Ibbetson feels honoured to have the opportunity to learn from Dame Shipley.

Serious crash in New Lynn

Police are in attendance at a serious crash involving a motorcycle and a car in New Lynn.

Police were called around 5:45pm to the crash on the corner of Parker Ave and Titirangi Road.

The motorcyclist has been taken to Auckland Hospital with serious injuries.

Police are urging motorists to avoid the area if possible. 

The Serious Crash Unit has been notified.

Yesterday afternoon at approximately 3.15pm, Police were called to an address in Grey Lynn.

Upon arrival Police staff found two people deceased at the scene, and are currently working to establish what has happened.

At this stage Police are not looking for anyone in relation to their deaths.

The property has been cordoned off while a scene examination continues.

Cash in transit robbery in Takanini

Police are currently at the scene of an aggravated robbery that occurred at the Takanini Southgate shopping complex this morning.

Just after 11am, three heavily disguised offenders carrying a firearm approached security guards who were transporting cash back to the security van.

The offenders presented a firearm at the security guards and fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.  Thankfully the security guards were not injured during the robbery.

Police can now release the name of the man killed in a crash on Bay Road, West Plains, Invercargill around 8:30pm on March 4.

He was 31-year-old Logan Lambert Bruce Heywood of Invercargill.

Police have completed the scene examination at Flaxmere where a man was found late on Sunday 4 March near the Flax Bar and Eatery.

A post mortem has been completed and Police can now confirm that the deceased was 40-year-old Kelly Alex Donner from Opotiki.

Items of interest located will now be forensically examined to establish their relevance to the investigation.

Police can now release the name of the man who died following a two-vehicle crash on the Temuka-Orari Highway in South Canterbury on Sunday.

He was 19-year-old Tyler Breen from Temuka.

His death will be referred to the Coroner.

Hawke’s Bay Police are continuing to investigate the death of a man in Flaxmere late on Sunday 4 March. 
 
A post mortem is being performed today and a formal identification process will take place once that is completed. 
 
A scene examination continued overnight and Police expect to remain at the scene for the remainder of the day and into tonight. 
 
Detective Senior Sergeant Marty James is continuing to appeal for people who have information which could assist the investigation to come forward. 
 

Winchester, Timaru

Drivers should expect delays on Temuka-Orari Highway (SH1) at Winchester, Timaru this morning after a collision involving a train and a car.

Emergency services were called to the scene at Reilly Rd just after 6am.

Local diversions are in place.

Drivers are asked to be patient while the scene is cleared.

There were no injuries reported.
