As of 1.04pm, the couple and all members of the DOC Search and Rescue Alpine Rescue team had safely returned by helicopter to Bull Hutt Road and were then transferred by road to the Aoraki Mt Cook Alpine Rescue base.

A couple in their 60s are currently awaiting rescue off Ball Pass Aoraki/Mt Cook after bad weather and severe exhaustion meant they could not get themselves to safety, requiring the assistance of the Rescue Coordination Centre NZ (RCCNZ) and staff from The Department of Conservation (DOC) alpine rescue team.

Seafort Holdings Limited and its sole director and shareholder, Richard John Prentice, have been ordered to pay fines and reparations totalling more than $93,000 after a 60-year-old passenger, Raewyn Russell, had her back broken when the company’s high speed passenger vessel, Mack Attack, hit a large wave.
