Principal Oboe Bede Hanley kicks off the concert with Bach’s ‘Wedding Cantata’, affectionately starting the evening on a romantic note. Don’t fall too deeply though – this work is followed with John Harbison’s Snow Country, a piece that echoes the desolate Wisconsin winter in which it was composed. The grace of the oboe is highlighted again with Vivaldi’s lively concerto before transitioning into a smoky tango with Piazzolla’s Oblivion, leaving you with just enough heat to brave the cold as this concert comes to a close.
